The needs of English is connected to motivation and language globalization. The improved motivation is based on the increased needs of studying English which underlie the willingness to invest time and effort to learn the language. As the globalized language, English dominates the use of written communication in the internet which is functioned as one of the sources of information and needed by the lecturers in the academic and non-academic activities. This paper presents an argument that lecturers need to study English because of self improvement, professional development and transfer knowledge as well as understanding language in the internet. These three reasons enable the lecturers to consistently undergo the long process of learning English which is followed by the need to maintain successful language learning. This is a library research coupled with the analysis of trends in language learning. The result shows that in the long process of language learning, the lecturers should create instrumental motivation as pragmatical reason so that learning English becomes more effective especially in implementing the Higher Learning Triad of Duties.
